PASTORAL PRAYER
THE COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN CHURCH
Springfield, Missouri
November 16, 2008

Read/Post Comments (3)

Eternal Ground of All Being,

Matrix of limitless galaxies,

we humbly pray:

Consider the tangled minutiae

of our lives

with maternal tenderness.

Bring clarity to confusion

and show us solutions

untangling our complexities.

We hurt from bone-deep needs

too numerous to be reckoned,

and seek the ease

of your comforting spirit.

Reassure us by your presence,

and help our faltering faith.

In a world beset

with economic calamity,

the clash of national identities,

human on human violence,

and a future uncertain,

help us find our way.

Please make it so.

Charlie,

Thanks for your work over the years, your blog, and your spirit that matches the season.

So glad to hear from you...I was expecting it, finally caught on that we have wry comments the first part of every month.

Is this your prayer? Did someone else pray this? There is so much good in it that it would be a shame to be even cautious about it, but of course, I am! I will have to study it awhile and get back to you... (Merry Christmas!)

Love you, dearly!

Hi Gracie, Yes, it is an edited version of a pastoral prayer I prayed at the Community Christian Church. You are likely skeptical of the first two lines, which I consider to be in the best Orthodox tradition (cf. Col 1:17 in the early creed/hymn Col 1:15-20). What do you think?

A particularly timely prayer, beautifully expressed.
